“The MUSA was fun, but the majority of the dive is to get to the statues and back. I would have loved more time looking into more detail instead of the the journey to there and back. I would also advise to let people know that a dive light would be beneficial on this tour so you can really see all the life dwelling. The dive boat was barely a dive boat, but the instructor cared a lot and if anyone works with Ponca dive center, Danni is truly kind and attentive.”

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 69 reviews · 4 hours (approx.) · from $59

Spend about four hours snorkeling Lighthouse Reef and MUSA, the underwater museum near Isla Mujeres, before stopping for tikin-xic roast fish at a beach club. The group is capped at 12, equipment and lunch are included, and guide Ivan, known as El Capitan, may lead the outing. Strong swimming ability helps.

“You need to be a strong swimmer. The weather was stormy but they didn’t cancel so we went out. It was rough and the waves were very high. Swimming from the boat to the lighthouse was very hard and the guide went fast and way ahead. There was no time to enjoy the marine life. Two people got motion sickness from the rough seas. When we reflected back on the day, we realized it was very dangerous in a small old boat and should not have gone.”

I’d gone once but my wife hadn’t and he made she sure was comfortable and she was able to quickly manage everything. An unexpected bonus, Ian brought along a go pro and took amazing footage of the whole thing. Small extra charge, but he transferred almost 8 GB of pure gold. I’m so grateful we’ll have such fantastic memories! Also, there’s a 7-11 next door to the marina so you can buy snacks and Gatorade for your trip (though the provide water)!”
